Angel City FC defeats Washington Spirit!

Hello again everyone; I just wanted to create a quick post about yesterday's spectacular Angel City FC victory over the Washington Spirit; 1-0.

Angel City (ACFC), the Los Angeles-based team that's one of the two newest members of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), played their first regular season away match yesterday. They traveled to the nation's capital to face the Washington Spirit, last year's NWSL champions.

The team played spectacular throughout the match, with the defense totally shutting down the Spirit's multiple offensive talents (including last year's Rookie of the Year, Trinity Rodman). The offense held the ball well and aggressively pursued scoring opportunities. In goal, ACFC's goalkeeper DiDi Haračić did a tremendous job and earned a clean sheet. Late in the first half, Angel City superstar Christen Press (x2 World Cup winner!) made a tremendous run and blasted the ball around the defender and past the goalie to score the game winner!

It was fun to watch the match on television with multiple fans, though I'm looking forward to being back in the stadium to watch them live this Saturday when they're back at home, hosting the Kansas City Current.

After 3 weeks, both of the NWSL's two expansion teams (Angel City FC, and San Diego Wave FC) are sitting at the top of the standings! Wave is in 1st place, while Angel City is right behind them in 2nd. Here's a view of the standings, re-posted from the NWSL:
